Confession: in the process of discovering who I was, I let go of certain relationships that I felt would not better or benefit me in the times to come. I cut ties. It was gradual, granted, but I did. It took me a long time to come to terms with what I had done, with who I had let go. Some people hated - still hate - me for it (one person in particular).
You will evolve past certain people. Some people grow together, others grow apart: it's the truth, and it stands, immutable. Self-growth isn't something to be ashamed of: never apologize for it. I spent a decent amount of time regretting the decisions I made that brought me down a path without certain people I was so sure I would travel forever with, that I was unable to see who else was walking beside me in the same direction.
Here's a piece of advice, free of charge: regret nothing. There will be things we all will miss, but love it all the same, and let it go. Living in the past is a horrible use of the present. Appreciate those we have left behind, and how those people helped us evolve to the person we are now.
Another piece of advice? Remember not to shame other people who development at a different pace.
There is so much time to meet new people and go to new places - there is so much time for change! Do not keep watering a plant that wilted a long time ago. Support each other, but understand that sometimes, life leads two good people two good but separate directions.
